PlanR
Growing up, athletic success fueled my love for speed and the science behind it. As a data analyst, I craved for answers to all sorts of questions, but only a few of those were practical: rest times, and time percent splits. With the rise in social media videos being used as primary sources of information, it can be difficult to know what advice to follow. This, combined with limited coaching tools ignited my mission: build a reliable training resource for track and field.
What work to rest ratio should be used in a workout? To be honest, there isn’t a simple answer to that question. Distance, speed percent, time of training cycle, and other possibilities need to be factored in when determining rest times. This allowed me to create the Workout Generator. Given a handful of inputs, a workout is created and can be used as a baseline. Crafted from various studies, coaching experience, and trial and error, the data-driven baseline is adaptable to coaching philosophy.
Can you predict potential times an athlete should run? From analyzing top world and collegiate times, you absolutely can! The Time Chart forecasts achievable splits from 10m to 400m, and 10yd to 100yd. Because data is still a bit limited, some distances are more accurate in their predictions than others. Not only does the Time Chart show splits, but it also shows speed percentages by distance. Train with target times, not vague percentages, to reduce the risk of overtraining.
My main goal? Level the playing field with an intuitive, powerful tool. In track and field, there are not enough quality tools that coaches rely on. The PlanR automates tedious tasks, empowering coaches to see important updated information at the click of a button. Organizing and creating workouts in an easy-to-use fashion. Properly tracking zone mileage to create healthy training cycles. Using the combination of research and data analysis to create a baseline workout. Seeing time trends by split to adjust focus points. And a lot more! PlanR is a collaborative journey, fueled by research and user experience. Together, let’s rewrite the track and field story, one data-driven stride at a time!
